"Fay's Rants" was what made Substack the special place it was.
Thank you for telling us about Fay's departure. I wondered...
I have too many Substack subscriptions. In fact, from here I will go to my inbox to "unsubscribe" to one or two. I just can't absorb all of them.
But Fay. When she ranted, I read with fascination and stimulation. What a brain! What a wonderful set of values! What great ideas to improve education, our government and life itself.
I told her that in the highly unlikely event that I would become president, I would nominate her for Secretary of Education. The truth, I think, is that she could have very effectively run ANY portion of the U.S. government.
I too found Fay via HCR. Typically, I would read HCR, then jump to Fay if she published. Today, this was the first thing I read. I didn't like the headline. I'm actually tearing up a bit as I type.
How can I feel so sad about losing someone I never met? Because she got me to think about things in fresh, dynamic, logical, and....compassionate ways. And you had to love her feisty spirit!
My condolences to your family. I know Fay will be missed. I met her during the pandemic through Heather Cox Richardson 's substack. Fay would make such great comments,so when she started a blog of her own,I followed her. (It turned out we had the same birthday!) I always enjoyed reading her thoughts, and will miss her letters. Much love to you and the rest of her family,Sue M
My condolences to all of you! I enjoyed reading Fay's posts! Her rants were wonderful. I wish I could have known her better. I intend to keep up the fight for our country and will have great memories of Fay. Thanks for letting us know.
My oldest friend in the whole world. And I mean she was the oldest person who was my friend. I only knew her at all through Substack and email. But I feel like I really KNEW her. I knew WHO she really was.
She talked about democracy all the time. The pros and cons of Canada and the USA. She workshopped democratic reforms that would strengthen democracy in both countries. She was a tireless defender of truth and justice. She loved America with all her heart, as much as recent events broke her heart.
She wanted a better world for all of us.
She went through so much. So much change, so much grief, so much loss. But she had so much INSIGHT into life, so much joy for it, so much curiosity, and so much hope.
I hope that, one day, some of her ideas, and ideals, inspire new generations of Americans and Canadians to a reinforced democracy and a better way for us all to treat each other.
Fay, I will miss you. The world is darker without you in it.
It's so interesting to read your comments, even though many of you never met her in person, that she had such an impact on you! She was my sister in law, beautiful inside and out, with a heart of gold, a wonderful laugh, with a creative talent, and definitely with a mind like a steel trap that was always the smartest in the room! She beat many serious medical issues over her lifetime, usually declaring that it was nothing; she outlived many of her family members and stoically moved on to her next challenge. If only she could have lived to see her beloved USA the way she wanted it to be!
She didn't ask for any memorials, but her passion was animals, especially cats, so if you have a favorite cat, give her a hug. Fay would appreciate it❤️
I recently reached out to her having not heard from her in a while, concerned of the inevitable. Although I’m sorry to hear this, I’m glad to know and not surprised she made sure we would know. She was a person of substance! If only there were more like her……

Farewell, Fay. You inspired. Well done, "friend".
My Dear Fay, I will miss you.
Your rants always poked me into action…I hope to honor your memory by continuing …
The Next Right Action 💙

Although we didn't share political views, Fay's Rants were always enjoyable for me. She will be missed.
I hope I can remain vital for as long as Fay.
Thanks for this update, as Fay has gone on to the next phase.
I miss her.

So sorry. We are all mortal. I will miss her thoughts on the world.
